In this post, I will be discussing the Wayfair Tilly bed, which I’ve recently added to my home. When we decided to give my son’s bedroom a little update, one of the pieces we needed to change was his bed. I wanted something neutral and stylish that would grow with him, work with his existing furniture, and feel cozy without being too bulky.

I’ve had my eye on the Tilly bed from Wayfair for years (but never had the need to purchase it) so it was my first choice for his space. There are multiple colors and fabrics to choose from and the price point is very reasonable for the quality. Now that we have it in our home, I can say it’s even better in person.
Clean, Classic Style
One of the things I love about the Tilly bed is that it has a tall, upholstered headboard with wingback sides that give it a finished, elevated look. It’s not overly sized like my upholstered bed (which you can read all about here – I still love that one too!) so it fit the space well and doesn’t block too much of his windows. I also like that the entire bed frame is upholstered, rather than just the headboard, which adds a polished look to the space.
We went with a neutral grey fabric (Zuma Pumice Textured Linen) that works well with the navy and white color palette + sports decor in my son’s room. It’s a great base for layering bedding, throw pillows, and pops of color down the road. Plus, the Tilly bed leans more masculine than some other neutral colors which is helpful for a teenage boy’s room.
Sizing, Fabric Options, and Assembly Details
The Wayfair Tilly upholstered bed comes in a range of sizes (twin, full, queen, king, and California king) so you can use it in anything from a kid’s room to a primary bedroom. We purchased the queen size for my son’s room, which has been great for a growing teenager!
The Tilly bed comes in 45 different colors and fabric combinations which truly makes it versatile for any home! Linen, velvet, performance velvet, boucle and tweed are just some of the options you can choose from. One item to note is that we did not purchase a performance fabric, which is something that might be useful for a child’s room. It has not been an issue for us with our teenage son but as I’m always fond of saying: your mileage may vary. There are a few performance fabric options to choose from if that interest you.
Assembly was fairly easy. It arrived in two boxes and my husband was able to assemble the entire frame on his own. This bed does require a box spring. We purchased the regular sized box spring but I also think we would have been fine with the lower profile. If you don’t want any open space at the head of the bed between the headboard and mattress, then stick with the regular sized box spring. With the regular size, his mattress is a bit higher off the ground but it’s not an issue for him.

Why the Tilly Bed Works for a Kid’s Room
I wanted something that didn’t feel too “little kid” but would still work in a room designed for a growing boy. The Tilly bed hits that perfect balance. It’s simple, stylish, and timeless.
I find that the bed is very sturdy which is important for a child’s room. The neutral fabric we chose means we can easily swap out bedding or wall art as his tastes change. I also love that it can eventually move to a guest room or stay with him as he gets older.
Price
In my opinion, the best part about the Tilly bed is the affordable price point! It goes on sale often throughout the year which is great when you are on a tight budget. Upholstered beds like this one often sell for 2-3x as much money which makes this bed a great deal. It’s also Wayfair Verified, which means it’s gone through enhanced product testing and inspection, it has great reviews and competitive pricing.
What I Love and a Few Things to Consider
What I love:
- The elevated look and feel. It truly looks more expensive than it is
- Tons of fabric and size options to fit different rooms
- Neutral and easy to style with my existing decor
- Works great for kids, teens, or guest rooms
A few things to note:
- You’ll need a box spring
- Light colored upholstery means you may need to spot clean (we haven’t had issues yet, but worth mentioning if you have younger kids or pets)
- It’s not a low-profile platform bed, so keep that in mind for space planning

Final Thoughts
The Tilly upholstered bed from Wayfair ended up being exactly what I hoped for. It gave my son’s room a more polished, grown-up feel while still being practical and comfortable for everyday use.
