Easy Brownies from Scratch
When I was a kid, I decided one day that I wanted to start cooking. My mom bought me a cookbook called KidsCooking. It came with a little set of colorful, plastic measuring spoons and I loved it. I had so much fun trying different recipes from it (though I am fairly certain my dad did not enjoy the cornflake covered chicken I made for dinner one day. Ha!) but my absolute most favorite recipe from the cookbook was their Disgustingly Rich brownies. Disgustingly Rich Brownies became my go-to recipe. They were the richest, chocolate-iest, most amazing brownies that I had ever had in my 10 years of life! I used to beg my mom to let me make them! The best part was that they were super easy to make from scratch with a simple list of ingredients and directions. At some point, the cookbook got tucked away and eventually we must have thrown it out or donated it. We kept the measuring spoons though and they’ve moved with me from my parents house to my college apartment to my current house.
A few years ago, I was telling my kids about this easy brownie recipe and I went searching for it. I was able to find a used cookbook copy on Amazon and next thing I knew, I was once again the proud owner of my childhood cookbook! I still use those spoons on a daily basis too. 🙂
Homemade Brownies from Scratch
My kids love these brownies! I forgot to add the chocolate chips the day I took these pictures but let me tell you, they add a whole other dimension of chocolate-y goodness to these easy brownies! This is a perfect easy brownie recipe for kids to help out with or even do themselves. They are the richest, fudgiest brownies ever and I guarantee that any chocolate lover in your life will love them!

How to Make Brownies from Scratch
Easy Brownies from Scratch
- 2 cups sugar
- 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 sticks butter
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¾ cup cocoa
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
- Melt both sticks of butter over low heat
- Stir cocoa and sugar together in a mixing bowl
- Stir in the melted butter
- Add eggs and vanilla and mix again
- Add flour and salt and mix until just smooth and then add the chocolate chips
- Spread mixture onto greased 8 or 9 inch square baking pan
- Bake for 40-50 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean
- Slice and enjoy!
