This and That
Happy Friday!
We had another mostly quiet week around here. My husband had some vacation days so we spent most of our time out in the pool. Wednesday was my birthday and it was such a beautiful day – perfect for a pool party! (And by party, I mean us + my mom and stepdad for a grand total of 6, lol).
I read Jetsetters this week – meh is about the best review I can give it. It was fine. I didn’t care about the characters – they were all unlikeable to me! I also read Beach Read which I liked. It’s a cute story about two writers with writer’s block who switch genres in a challenge to see who can sell their book first. By the end, I was a little annoyed by the main characters and their back and forth but overall, I liked it and would recommend it! I’m looking for another great book to read and still waiting for One to Watch, Big Summer and The Guest List to become available from the library.
I posted on Instagram stories yesterday about a little home project I am working on. Our overstuffed armchair in the family room is in desperate need of being reupholstered. It was my Dad’s and we recovered it a few years ago. Unfortunately, the fabric I choose was the worst possible fabric in the world for a chair that kids + a dog use. It stained horribly, even if it was only water that was spilled. It also frayed at the seam because the dog lays on the top cushion so eventually it ripped completely.
So, I ordered some Perennials fabric samples from Serena and Lily. You might remember me talking about this fabric from Ballard Designs last month – it was a bust when I tried to clean it. I put a few of the samples to the stain test yesterday. When you spill liquid on these fabrics, it just immediately beads up so that’s one problem eliminated. This fabric is my favorite so far because I think it will be durable (I was able to get a chocolate stain out with no problems!). I also ordered this wallpaper sample as well as this one and this one. I’ve got a spot in my foyer that I want to hang one of them!
The start of school is in less than 2 weeks now, I can’t believe it! We decided to set my son up in the dining room and my daughter in the toy room. Last week, I mentioned that I wanted to replace our broken-spring couch in there but we decided this week to just get rid of the couch and use this tabletop from Ikea with these legs (we currently have them for our kid’s art desks – you can see them in my Our Home: Then and Now post). That should hopefully give my daughter the room and quiet she needs!
Check out all of my favorite home decor items from Ikea in this post here!
So I need to patch the holes in the wall and then I’m going to paint the whole room. I guess I should get started soon if I want to get it done before school starts!
Friday Favorites
My featured home photos this week is the outdoor living space from Monika Hibb’s new home (as shared by their designer SuCasaDesign). It’s just gorgeous!
I’ve noticed a few things that caught my eye this week, including this pretty blue and white striped rug. The 2×3 size is $40 and if you sign up for their emails, you can get an additional 20% off. I also loved this pretty console table on clearance from Kirkland’s, as well as these botanical prints. You can save 15% off with the code 15OFF.
I have always loved this white coastal coffee table and it is finally back in stock. WalMart has it for more than $50 off than other stores! This natural fiber lamp was super pretty and I loved this blue candle holder from Kirkland’s as well. I also included 2 pretty pillows in today’s post, found here + here.
